The Gina Burchenal Grant: $5,000
Urban American Farmer engages Austin in conversations about the future of flavor through a Seed to Pop-up series that began by working with the local community to plant seeds with Urban Roots. The harvested crops will then be used in local restaurants and bar menus and, finally, in an educational dinner featuring speakers who focus on food sourcing innovation and community building. Further plans include a seed bank, urban rooftop gardens, and a research and development garden for Central Texas chefs.
Urban American Farmer will use this grant to facilitate the growing, processing, and distribution of beets and for the branding and marketing of the pop-up series.
