$5,000 H-E-B Grant Supporting Diversity and Inclusion
East Side nonprofit Gardopia Gardens, a previous grant winner, aims to reduce obesity and malnutrition by increasing accessibility to fresh produce and implementing strategic intervention programming in schools, businesses, and community organizations. Partnering with the Young Women's Leadership Academy Primary (YWLAP), the organization has implanted a garden-based learning program and an urban farm for kindergarten through third-grade students, empowering the leaders of tomorrow.
Grant funds will enable Gardopia to build the NestEd Community Chicken Coop, supplying the organization's on-site kitchen and providing farm-fresh eggs to the community at no cost.
