H-E-B Grant Supporting Diversity and Inclusion: $5,000
East Side nonprofit Gardopia Gardens aims to reduce obesity and malnutrition by increasing accessibility to fresh produce and implementing strategic intervention programming in schools, businesses, and community organizations. Partnering with the Young Women’s Leadership Academy Primary (YWLAP), the organization has implanted a garden-based learning program and an urban farm for kindergarten through third-grade students, empowering the leaders of tomorrow.
The project also serves San Antonio’s multicultural communities by providing an enriching learning environment for underserved youth and family gardening days. Grant funding will be used to develop rainwater infrastructure, add small livestock, chickens, and bees to the farm, and purchase garden tools for the children served.
