Front Steps
AFWA Grant: $3,500
Since 2004, local nonprofit Front Steps has operated a commercial kitchen at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless. With the guidance of Chef Brian Baldonado, the organization serves 130 nutritious, scratch-made dinners nightly to men staying at the shelter.
Through the Front Steps Culinary Employment Project, the grant will enable the nonprofit to remove financial barriers for 25 men and teach them the culinary skills needed to gain employment in the hospitality industry, aiding the participants in securing an income and housing.
