Tito’s Handmade Vodka Entrepreneur Grant: $5,000
Rooted in tradition and with an eye to the future, Distant Relatives seeks to explore the flavors, textures, culture, and heritage of the African diaspora through a modern African American lens. Under the proprietorship of acclaimed chef Damian Brockway, the upcoming food truck will source almost exclusively from the local food system while offering an updated taste of historical Black foodways from the United States and beyond. Through this approach, Distant Relatives hopes to celebrate, educate, and support the local community and bring an emerging culinary genre to Central Texas for the first time. With this grant, Brockway will purchase the equipment and supplies needed to launch the innovative concept in 2021.
