Under the leadership of chef entrepreneur Sheri L. Raleigh Yearby, Waco's Cast Iron Skillet offers a variety of culinary experiences. Its latest project, the Ancestors Food Project, is dedicated to sharing Creole cultural heritage and cuisine influenced by West Africa, the first project in Texas to collect family heritage recipes of Louisiana and Lone Star Creoles. The goal is to stimulate an interest in food traditions by providing networking opportunities and connecting people through food and culture.
Grant funds will facilitate a multimedia work supporting African American Foodways initiative, including documentary production, curriculum guide, and recipes in digital and print formats.
